Unique holiday gift stores in Asheville

The holidays come but once a year but then comes the ever present challenge of how to find a unique gift that your someone special will love?

Asheville can be a challenge if you are looking for store franchises but we have a ton of really amazing gift spots if you know where to look!

    1. Mast General Store, 15 Biltmore Ave.

This has been a holiday favorite for generations. And it is a great place to find nostalgic Appalachian gifts that your family and friends who don't live in the mountains will love! Located at 15 Biltmore Ave. you can find barrels of candy, clothing, knives, woolly socks, tons of things for the kitchen, and old timey toys. Stroll the aisles with a bag of complimentary popcorn and enjoy mountain gifts from ages past. It's a lovely reminder of a simpler time and the true joys of being with family.

    2. Asheville Bee Charmer, 38 Battery Park Ave. or 32 Broadway

For the environmentalist on your gift list, check out the Asheville Bee Charmer located at 38 Battery Park Ave. or 32 Broadway. They have so much more than honey! While the honey is delicious (and they have remarkable infusions such as ghost pepper, vanilla bean, tulsi-rose, and coffee) you can find all kinds of unique bee inspired gifts. I love the jewelry but there are also soaps, kitchenware, candles, books, and home decor. Bees are cute! Have a seat at the tasting bar and see what kind of honey suits your fancy.

    3. The Battery Park Book Exchange, 1 Page Ave.
This is purely just a cool place to hang out! On the first floor they serve unique wines and champagne along with delectable eats like their famous charcuterie boards, "The Secret Life of Cheese" and "Beauty and the Meats". But the atmosphere is pure perfection, especially for a book connoisseur. You can easily get lost among the shelves. Over 10,000 books are available for purchase over two floors calling to mind a library out of Dickens or Harry Potter. Special collections include civil war & US history, art & design, award winning fiction, and classics. There are also display cases for rare treasures, first editions, and author autographed works. This place is pure Dickensian romance!

    4. HobbyTown, 129 Bleachery Blvd.

This is where Santa shops! For all things radio controlled, models, puzzles, drones, racing, and game sets, you have to come here. They have remote controlled cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, helicopters, and even rock crawlers. It is also a great place for kids who are more interested in STEM games and kits. This is the only store in town that sells RC and racing parts for adults as well. Come for a visit and feel like a kid again!

    5. The Wyvern's Tale, 347 Merrimon Ave.

Some of us prefer to live in a Fantasy World and at The Wyvern's Tale, that is expected! The Wyvern's Tale embraces the land of role playing games, fantasy board games, and war games. They carry titles like A Song of Ice and Fire, Star Wars: X-Wing, and Dungeons and Dragons. They also honor this eclectic hobby by hosting gaming groups for whatever fantasy you desire to explore. The Asheville Pathfinder Lodge is one of the largest Pathfinder Society groups in the country! Reservations are available online for group play spaces. You can also bring in your gently worn games for trade. This is a great place to make some new friends and get involved in a brand new world!

I hope this helps with some ideas for those on your gift list. And while gifts are wonderful, remember the best gift is the one that comes from your heart!

    Happy Holidays!
