There is more to the Blue Ridge than just Asheville! Take a look at these other unique mountain towns
When thoughts of the mountains come to mind, one automatically thinks of Asheville. While this is the largest metropolitan area in the NC Appalachian chain, if you are looking for mountain quaintness you would be remiss not to consider these areas.
Black Mountain - located a short 20 minute drive outside of Asheville, this mountain town has a general store, hiker pubs, and its own trail system covering over 30 miles of Greybeard mountain. You can also spend time at Lake Tomahawk with its walking trails, park, playground, and community pool.

Saluda - A historic town perched on the edge of the Blue Ridge right before it drops off into the foothills. Adjacent to over 18,000 acres of the Green River Gamelands, this is a premier destination for road biking, fly fishing, and the famous Green River kayak race.

Lake Lure - You remember when Patrick Swayze lifted Jennifer Grey out of the water in that beautiful mountain lake, right? That was filmed right here in picturesque Lake Lure, home of the Dirty Dancing Festival. This is also the spot where they filmed Last of the Mohicans and a portion of the Hunger Games. Famous for its magnificent slick rock faces, Chimney Rock national park, and charming inn, you don't want to miss small town living with mountains and a lake too.

Marion - this little town is a gateway to all of the mountain activities that everyone comes here for. What most don't realize is that you have to go down the mountain and then up again to reach the ski areas of Banner Elk. Marion will take you to the Linville Gorge, magnificent waterfalls, has its own purpose built mountain bike park, and you won't want to miss beautiful Lake James. This is the lake where the locals come to play with fantastic boating, waterside restaurants, and beaches. Real estate wise you can also get a lot more for your money here.
