Getting involved in Asheville community legislation, no experience required!
Driving around the streets of Asheville I can bet that you have seen some things that you wish that you could change. After all, nowhere is perfect, right? But what if it could move towards "perfect" and you could be one of the people that helps it get there?
There are over 30 city boards and commissions that oversee everything in our community from greenways to transportation to the arts to beautification. And the only requirement for a seat on that board is that you be a resident of Buncombe county.
There are currently 5 vacancies that the county is looking to fill. Depending upon the board or commission you would be required to meet either once or twice a month and your seat would be held for a period of 3 years.
The Asheville City Council is currently accepting applications for those vacancies through March 6 at 5pm and will make the appointments at their March 14th meeting.
The following councils are available:
Multimodal Transportation Commission - looking for someone interested in creating more pedestrian and bike friendly routes
Asheville Area Riverfront Development Commission - looking for a property or business owner in the River Arts district
Audit Committee - looking for a certified public accountant
Asheville Downtown Commission - looking for those interested in continued development for the downtown area
Homeless Initiative Advisory Committee - looking for someone with experience with survivors or agencies that deal with human trafficking, victim service providers, corrections, school administrators, or homeless liaisons
More information about available seats and an online application can be found at the following link:

This is a great way to be a significant instrument for change in our beautiful mountain city!
